Babies: Punishment or a Choice?

One of the biggest issue about the newly-elect US President Barack Obama was about his opinion given at a town hall meeting in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, during his campaign period.

"Look, I got two daughters -- nine years old and six years old. I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby. I don't want them punished with an STD at age 16."

Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, says Obama professes to be a Christian, yet equates contracting a sexually transmitted disease with giving life to a child -- intended or not. She says precious, innocent children are not punishment, even if the parents did not make the right choices to begin with.

There can be various ways on how to take Obama's opinion. Let your voice be heard in regards to this issue.

Thank you for any input...

I agree that each baby born either wanted or not wanted is never a punishment. It's God gift to us and we have to take care of it.
About punishment or a choice, I don't really have my choice here because I'd love to choose 'a gift'.
It's how we choose of what to do with this wonderful gift that matter.

It's impossible for Obama to please everyone. I believe that this is a controversial topic. During our Moral & Ethics Class, we were asked to state our stand on abortion. It's really hard to decide whether I'm all for it or against the whole thing.

Back to topic, I'm sure baby is a choice and NOT a punishment.

I believe that the main issue is to learn and follow values and morals, about our life...

abortion is never an option or a solution to a pregnancy. It's against God's law so if he believe in God, he won't support abortion..

Its just goes to show that he don't really mean what he say. He said he believe in God the creator, but what does he do, support abortion.. that's against his belief then..

Our child is a gift from God.
We have responsibility to take care and help their to choice the right way.

I think Obama's point is that women can deal with a range of consequences as a result of sexual violence. I can't even imagine being faced with this situation. I hope such problems fade out of our society.

What about for those who are molested at age 14, and get pregnant? Do you still think that they have been given a gift? It would be torture if I had to look at a child that was conceived by such an aggressive act against myself.
