With Strings Attached

"The Kite; or Pride Must Have a Fall"
John Newton

Were I but free, I'd take a flight,
And pierce the clouds beyond the sight,
But, ah! Like a poor pris'ner bound,
My string confines me near the ground.

The kite does finally manage to tug itself free,
But instead of soaring higher in the sky, it crashes into the sea.

This analogy calls us to realize that like the kite, we want to let go off the hold, but if left to ourselves, we will crash down somewhere. Some people of significant personalities, selfishly savor their moment being on top, not acknowledging that it was a blessing from God, and most of them, crashed down helplessly.

"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up." James 4:10 NKJV
