I have a confession to make. I hope somebody can give me an advice on this sick thought of mine.It really doesn’t touch my heart every time I see beggars on the street asking for money. What was on my mind was becoming a beggar is a willful choice. I personally know a person who decided to become a beggar because she was tired of doing anything just to earn. I know some people who leave their land in the province just to go to a big city and become beggars. Their lives could have been even better back where they were, because they have a land that they could plant some vegetables or root crops.
Of course, there are those that are genuinely disabled to do anything to feed their selves. But I think they could go to any government organization and have them lead the way where to go for people like them. But then again, I know some people that don’t want to be under some organizations because they don’t want to be under the rules. And that’s how I develop being sarcastic about these beggars.
Here is this bible verse; “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.” Proverbs 37:25 NIV I believe that having faith to God will not lead you to become a beggar because I believe that God himself is their great provider.
I hope you don’t get me wrong as being a stingy person. When I was still in the Philippines, I love to bring some grocery items to a poor and needy neighborhood. If I know somebody is in need, I could hand them some cash. That’s it. And, by the way, I know there are exceptions on some cases and I’m talking generally.

Beggars.
I actually am confused whether to pity them or not. When they go coming asking for money when I'm in the jeepney, I don't give.
We're having the same thoughts. I see beggars with even bigger bodies than I have. Surely they could work on some job. If they need money, they wouldn't choose. A construction job is okay. It's better to be a 'kargador' than a 'beggar'. I mean even garbage collectors can live through a day with their earnings.
True, it's all their choices. Even if there are only a few job opportunities in the Phils., there's still a way to survive better than begging. But of course, begging is better than stealing.
most proper way would really be for them to go to government institutions but wometimes those institutions are already full.
one of the best way to help them is thru the education of their kids. it is education that we can really give to them.

I fully understand where you are coming from, but I'm brought to Exodus 2:14 where it says, "Who made you a leader and judge over us?"
Our Pastor had talked on this very thing one day. He and his family were traveling. He had stopped for gas, and a man approached him asking for money. The Pastor said he didn't have any to give him. His son and son-in-law got out their car and walked over and gave the man some money. Pastor was thinking he probably just wants money for a bottle.
Then it was revealed to him, we don't their circumstances. Who are we to judge them?
The moral is, we never know others situations for sure. Often times we take things for granted. Instead of ignoring them, we should give and pray for them. Ask them if you can pray for them first. If they don't want your prayer, then walk a little ways away and pray for them from a distance in silence. You never know, you may be saving someone!
I have to admit. I've driven by people before, or walked by some before thinking, "they could be working, why are they standing out here taking free handsouts? But now, I know that I need to think about what God would do. Hope this helps. You have a good heart Grace. I can tell by what you post on here. When in doubt, go to the word!
Just listen to what your heart tells you to do. You cannot go wrong. This is not something to think about. This is something to feel about and doing what you think is right is right. Just help if you can or keep moving on. Do not let the sight make you feel guilty. That is what I do.
It is a very difficult point, Grace. I think we can't judge because all of us have our reasons and our paths. I feel piety of them because they can't reach standard levels with standars methods, in spite of the reasons for them to be in that situation. As Rummuser says: let your heart speaks; that's all; we can't judge because we don't know the real circumstances; but you can discover your real feelings, that's all.

I can see where you're coming from, Grace. We each have our own cross to carry and we don't know what's going on with that person, so I always give everybody a benefit of a doubt.
Follow your heart and don't feel bad about it, you are a good person and that's all there is to it.
