Your Labor Is Not In Vain

"Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV
When I was still in the Philippines, there were times that I was renting a bedspace to be closer to where I worked. Being a christian was a factor to be avoided because most of the people around you are not open to conversation about God and the free gift of salvation. But the good thing is, being a christian is not only by words but it should also be seen by actions.
.
Part of the rules in the boarding house was to maintain cleanliness not only in your own room but also in the hallway, stairs and bathroom/toilet room. Unfortunatly, they're just a bunch of "I-don't-care" fellas. And since I can't stand unitidiness and unpleasant odors, I had no choice but to do the cleaning. I did the scrubbing and waxing the floor while my room mate (also a christian) cleaned the bathroom/toilet room.
.
While doing that, sometimes I felt unfairness, but what made it exciting was that I did it for God's sake and my consolation to myself was, a treasure earned in heaven. I don't want a reward here on earth. But above all, my prayer was that they will see Jesus in my deeds.

i think there's great opportunity in menial labor for meditation and prayer... and i figure if mother theresa could care for the dying on the streets of calcutta, i can certainly keep a toilet or two clean... not to mention a floor or three scrubbed :).
