Money Language

It took me awhile before I learned about US money (coins). It is very confusing to me.
One penny is one cent. One hundred cents is equal to one dollar.
One nickel is five cents, but how come it is bigger than one dime?
One dime is ten cents, but how come it is smaller than one penny?
Did I justified myself enough for my confusion?

The nickel is bigger because it is made of a less valuable metal than the dime so the dime can be small and worth more.

I had to giggle Grace, as I had thought the same thing. It made no sense to me with the sizes; and I'm a born and raised American. So don't feel bad. ;)
