"Shut Up And Pray"

No one wants to be around a person with no good manner and right conduct. I used to have a housemate who really doesn't behave properly. Being a good neighbor, it is our natural attitude to be kind to the new-comer. He asked for my cellphone number for emergency purpose (that's what I thought), I didn't hesitate at all. He got wife and whenever he was out-of-town, he would call me in the middle of the night to ask me if his wife was home already and at what specific time. Oh my gosh! Am I your wife's keeper?
.
At one time, too, he asked me if I need my food that was intended for my lunch, he told me that he was very hungry and that he was sick of eating from the nearby fastfood. I told him, "Ok, you can eat it. I'm not yet hungry anyway." So he did. A couple of hours after, I went to check my kitchen, (we have separate kitchen) I was not surprised that he ate them all, but what greatly surprised me was that he did not clean up what he used up. Everything was a mess in my kitchen and dining table.
.
Everybody in the boarding house had something against him. Nobody really likes him. But I told my one housemate, we can not go on hating him or be mad at him, because he doesn't know what he was doing. We lost in this game. It was just his manner and he did not intentionally wanted us to be mad at him, it just so happened that it didn't occur to him that what he was doing was wrong. So, instead of being mad at him, we can either talk to him about it or pray to God that he will realized his bad manner. Let's just shut up and pray for him.
.
"Though I have the gift of prophesy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing." 1 Corinthians 13:2 NKJV

I dont agree. I think he should have been told. If someone told me that they would pray for me - I would be mad. Its like feeling sorry. I dont like anyone feeling sorry for me if I feel good about myself, ya know.

So....I would have told him how I feel in a very mannered way and not trying to change him. If he is the way he is even after a lot of people point the same thing to him - then thats how he is suppose to be.

Just my 2 cents

Awesome post Grace! Amen!!!

Mea Culpa, I disagree with you. We can hope a person realizes their bad behavior and will change. No, it's not right for us to try and change a person, but we can pray about it and let the Lord handle it.It's not a matter of feeling sorry for him, it's a matter of asking for the right guidance, and if the Lord felt it right for them to say something to him, then they would. Politely telling someone that they would appreciate his help in keeping things picked up would have been okay, and that he pitch in with groceries, etc. But praying by far is the best route to take.

Christians see the praying for someone the good way....us, free thinkers and people not of that religion see it in a different light.

By praying for whoever else to realize something and change - its like you putting yourself above that person. Its different if you prayed for someone to heal. Maybe the "LOrd" (or Goddess or Gods or the Universe or whatever other names there are) meant for him to be that way, maybe he had lessons to learn by being that way....who are you, praying people, to know what the Forces want to do with this person?
