Food Trip Friday #8 - Traditional Lumpia

I am joining Clarissa on this "Food Trip Friday" meme for a reason that I want to challenge myself to try something new food at least once a week in order for me to learn to cook.
Oopss... I want to make an apology. I thought it was Clarissa who started this meme. Clarissa corrected me. "Food Trip Friday" was originated and hosted by Mommy Willa. I will have to find her link to enclose it here. Probably by next friday I can do it then.
.
.
This is what I called "Traditional Lumpia". I can still recall when I was a little girl that every time my rich aunt had some kind of celebration (especially feast) in their house, my mama and I were there to help her prepare for the foods. My mama's especialty is this tradtional lumpia. I watched her every step of the way until it had the whole procession registered on my mind up to now. My older sister then learned how to do that, too. And she is very good at it.
.
When I moved here, I started to miss my kind of food. We happened to be in an asian market and I saw this spring roll shells, and all at once, I had decided to buy it and make a traditional lumpia. Honestly, it was my first time doing that. I am just so glad that it turned out perfectly... and not just that, my husband loved it, too. I am so happy with that.
.
Here are what you need:
* ground meat
* finely chopped carrots
* finely chopped potatoes
* finely chopped onions
* finely chopped garlics
* finely chopped cabbage
(Thanks for the question "With Loving Stitches") Yes, you cook the ground meat in a pan first (after the meat is cooked) and then you add all the rest to the pan, too, until golden brown.
* season with pepper and salt
* and wrap in spring rolls shells
* fry with oil
** best serve with catsup
.
I'm sorry, I don't know how to tell how much of these ingredients, because I just dump all of them in one container and I end up more of this than the spring rolls shells. But you can make some experiments on it.

Oh my gosh... Okay me and the honey will be giving these a try. They sound so good and quite easy to prepare and make up. I think it would be a fantastic weekend dish.

I love lumpia dipped in a sweet chili sauce! In fact this is my american family's favorite among filipino dishes.

Hi there! Thank you for stopping by my blog!!

Oh, I love lumpia! When my grandma would visit, I would help her make it! In fact, I was telling my kids that I wanted to make some and freeze them! I like mine w/ vinegar, salt, & pepper!!

What a nice story and a great recipe. I love how food can transport us to other places and times from our youth.
