Psalm 117
Psalm 117 is the shortest chapter in the entire Bible. It is also the middle chapter of the Scriptures. Not only is the Psalm brief, it is also to the point: humankind’s job is to praise God because God is loving and faithful. The Psalm also brings together Jew and Gentile, making it clear that God’s love and faithfulness extends to all people; everyone is called to worship the God of Israel, the God of all creation.
This shortest of hymns calls on the nations to acknowledge God's supremacy. The supremacy of Israel's God has been demonstrated to them by the people's secure existence, which is owed entirely to God's gracious fidelity.
