"Black Friday?"

I never heard of it before. We had a "Black Saturday" in the Philippines, and that is the Saturday after "Holy Thursday" and "Good Friday". So, what is this "Black Friday" here in US?
According to Wikipedia , Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States, where it is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season. Since Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November in the United States, Black Friday may be as early as the 23rd and as late as the 29th of November.

Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many employees have the day off, which increases the number of potential shoppers. Retailers often decorate for the Christmas season weeks beforehand. Many retailers open very early (typically 5 am or even earlier) and offer doorbuster deals and loss leaders to draw people to their stores. Although Black Friday, as the first shopping day after Thanksgiving, has served as the unofficial beginning of the Christmas season at least since the start of the modern Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924, the term "Black Friday" has been traced back only to the 1960s.

My husband and I went to Walmart Sandusky. We left the house 3:30 A.M., because it says that the sale would start 5:00 A.M. I was just so glad that this year, Walmart Sandusky is open 24 hours a day. If it had not, we would be freezed outside the mall waiting for it's opening.

This was the scenario. Shoppers was rushing their way to the sale items that they want to buy. And this is what I got, Samsung DigiCam 10.2 megapixel for only $69.00. My husband bought this for me. I am so happy to have this. Thank you, honey.

Thanks for the message.I had a very nice Thanksgiving.Good deal on camera. You were talking about Black Friday,I worked retail at our local mall for 10 years.Every Friday after Thanksgiving I would have to be at work at 4:A.M.You would not believe the people who would be waiting at the door that early just for small things like a 5.00 toaster or a 10.00 gift card.I remember one year the line was back up at the doors before we the employees could even get in.One lady told us we would have to go to the back of the line. That was funny.I always enjoyed that day and all the excitement. This year at one of the local stores people were camping in tents all night to get good deals.Don't you know they were cold.So yes black Friday is the official first and biggest shopping day of the year and the beginning of the Christmas season.Have a wonderful weekend and God Bless.

As I'm reading your blog post, they are talking about a stampede at a Walmart which killed one worker...so sad! I too was out shoping on black friday. Although, I did not go out until about 6:30 am. I didn't buy much. I only spent $23.00. I just feel blessed because I really don't need anything. Praise God!!!

Grace, I was wondering what the USA's Black Friday was too! I don't live in the USA and the only Black Fridays we have in Australia is any Friday the 13th. They have nothing to do with shopping. So glad you got a good deal on your camera. I was out shopping today (Saturday) for Christmas but we didn't go till about 11am. It was crowded at the factory outlet stores we went to so many people are busy with their Christmas shopping here too. Glad you liked my paper pierced card and I hope to see one you make one day! Blessings!
