What Is With Green?

We were at Walmart this afternoon and I noticed that most of the front displays were Greens. I asked my husband, "What is with green?" he answered, "It is St. Patrick's Day." We don't have this kind of holiday in the Philippines and I didn't know what was this about. So, who was St. Patrick, anyway?
.
As my husband explained it to me, St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is one of Christianity's most widely known figures. But for all his celebrity, his life remains somewhat of a mystery. Many of the stories traditionally associated with St. Patrick, including the famous account of his banishing all the snakes from Ireland, are false, the products of hundreds of years of exaggerated storytelling. March 17, 2009 will be the celebration of St. Patrick's Day. I'm just so excited to see what will happen on that day.
