The Brain

I have migraine. I used to suffer a lot of it every week when I was still in the Philippines. I hate it when it attacks. But surprisingly, since I am here, I have it very seldom only. Why is it? Is it because I am too busy here that I don't have time to nurse a migraine anymore? Lately, I learned that our brain controls so much of how we heal. Some say it's the work of the vagus nerve, which runs from our brain to our abdomen, letting our brain communicate with the rest of our body. And evidence is mounting that the more we practice mind-body techniques, the more powerful they become. No one knows for sure how the mind-body connection might make this leap, but praying for someone who is sick really works.
.
The mind is a mighty force. When you close your eyes and imagine something stressful, our body reacts: Asteries constrict, blood pressure goes up, muscle tense, breathing rate increases. But if you think of something healing, healing tends to happen- psychologically. This may explain why compassion and forgiveness are so powerful, not only for the recipient but also for the giver.

Glad you are having less migraines Grace! That is a blessing in itself. I had worked with a woman that was stationed here and had horrific migraines and would have to go to the emergency room and get a shot or two of morphine. Then she was out of it for 3 days. She later moved to the East coast and hasn't had any. So I wonder if the atmosphere may have something to do with it as well.
The brain is a mighty structure, that only our creator will ever fully understand.
