Amazing America - Store Policy

Few months ago, my mom-in-law bought me a Hair Iron for special occasion use. One special occasion came, I was looking forward to use it because my hair is not really wonderfully straight, and that would be a good way for me to have a great hair on that special day. But unfortunately, it didn't work then. Too bad, I didn't tried it before the special day came. If I did, we would have known ahead and maybe could have it exchange.

My mom-in-law had decided to return the Hair Iron. It took her over a month before she was able to return it to Walmart, Caro, because she was very busy on many things. On our way to the store, I was thinking, "Would they still accept that for return after that long time? I doubt it so." And we can't find the receipt anymore, too. But to my surprise, they did! No sweat! Wow! I could say that if it happened to some other stores, specifically, in the Philippines, I doubt that they would accept it as a return anymore.

More power to America! More power to Walmart!

Would You?

Here's a picture of a public toilet in REEDSPORT OREGON..

The left picture is a view from outside and the right picture is a view from inside.

That's made entirely out of one-way glass. No one can see you in there, but when you are inside, it looks like you're sitting in a clear glass box.

Flying To Southern Skies

"Winter time is coming. What will happen to the birds? They won't be able to stand the cold," a concerned 3-year old boy asked.

Autumn is the time of migrations. Thousands of birds fly great distances to find their winter sites. Birds may migrate thanks to numerous abilities, which we humans may only dream of. They can interpret earth magnetism and use it as their compass. They can also find their direction using the sun and stars for navigation. They are also able to identify the point in the sky all the stars revolve around. This point indicates the north (on the northern hemisphere) and south (on the Antipodes). In order to navigate according to the stars and the sun one also needs to measure time very precisely – birds can do it.

How I wish that all humankind can do the same things, too. To fly away if we sense a certain unpleasant events or uncomfortable circumstances is coming. Most of us tends to appear or presents ourselves that we are invincible. But who are we fooling around? The more we pretend that we are strong in the face of danger, the more we get trapped to it, and suddenly, it will be too late to fly away. Birds can sense danger and fly away from it, why don't we?

"A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it." Proverbs 22:3 NIV

Water

This morning, as I was having my breakfast and reading The Saginaw News, an article caught my attention. It was about a male U.S. Citizen of 47 years old, has rented a house ($495.00 a month) in Saginaw, Michigan, for the past three years. The house he was renting was on sale for nonpayment of taxes. He says that no one notified or evicted him and so he argued that he is still a legal tenant. He still pays the power bill, but two months ago, the city shut the water supply off.

Every early morning, through the kindness of the auto sales owner, he would drag a 200-foot garden hose across a three-lane street from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. to get water he needs to drink, bathe or wash clothes . They do that at that hour because there's less traffic. Still, when the car hits the hose, it stops the water flow for a minute.

The man wish to move if he could afford it. He can't hold steady employment because he had knee surgeries. He was an auto mechanic, and he still finds partial employment with some garage that sporadically hire him for a day or more-- or if it's a good day for his knee.

He put out a sign saying he needs water. The response has been amazing. Fifty to sixty people have donated water, from bottled water to two-gallon containers.

This act of old-fashioned "neighbors-helping-neighbors" is rare in this generation. And it reminds me of this bible verse;
"And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water... I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward." Matthew 10:42 NIV

Independence Bank

The past three weeks, I opened a bank account at Independence Bank, Kingston, MI. One of my purpose on opening an account was to be able to use Paypal Account. It was very easy and convenient to us. There was not much filling-up of forms. There were cookies and coffee for free. The staffs were so friendly and approachable. With the little amount for initial deposit, a lot go with it, such as; atm debit card, discount cards, check books, etc. And what amazed me most was the free gift for the new depositor and another free gift for the one who took me there. I got CorningWare set as their gift for me and a choice of that same gift or the Ironworks tool set for the one who took the new depositor to their bank. Isn't this cool?

9/11 Memorial Day

The message this morning in the Our Daily Bread devotional reading materials was about the 9/11 attack, then I shifted my eyes on TV which was left on overnight, I saw the memorial ceremony taking place in NY. Families of the victims gave their speech. It was a somber ceremony. The world is reminded of the tragedy. The world is mourning again. It was really a heart-breaking moment. But I hate to think, that somewhere, somebody is rejoicing, too.
