I like dressing up our guest room. It is my favorite room in the house. It got twin bed in it with a large window facing the tallest pine tree in our area. I keep it clean all the time. A Good Gift To A New Neighbor

I am very happy that my new job gives me all Sundays off. This is the way I like it to happen so that my husband and I can go to the church in the morning and have a family/friends time in the afternoon. My employer understand the importance of having the Sundays off because she, too, have a healthy relationship with God. I feel so blessed to have an employer with a good heart.

My Filipino friend who just moved in the building next to us just called me a while ago, calling us to gather in her house this evening for another day of bonding. Well, I think it is about time to do so, because it has been two weeks since the last time we did that. I am excited to see my friends again, and I am glad that it fells on my day off. I am excited, too, to see their new place; they just had moved and had changed most of their furniture. If I can, I would like to buy them a wall clock because she always admire ours and they don’t have one yet, but right now we are so tight, because of the coming Thanksgiving big family dinner. It Is Cool To Be Rustic

It has been a year since we move here in Florida, and most of our furniture are temporary. We bought them few days after we moved here. My husband and I agreed to buy second hand furniture, and will just replace them as soon as we are set with all the expenses that we have to go through. As of now, we are starting to replace some stuff, such as the guest room’s bed and some kitchen stuff. Our next goal is the bedroom furniture. Although we like the dresser and side drawers that came with our old bedroom furniture, but the bed is terrible. We definitely need a new one.

I have a pretty demanding job, which means that even though I'm single and have my own house, I don't always get to do a lot of things for myself. It isn't just the busy moms that never treat themselves.

But my birthday is getting ready to roll around so I thought there would be nothing better to do than finding a way to make me enjoy being at home a lot more. Granted I'm not there a whole lot, but I'm not running around I just love to shut myself in with a good book or two. So when I saw some ca sears kitchen cabinets specials online I decided to use them to refresh my kitchen.

It's not like I spend a whole lot of time cooking, but I do love to entertain in my kitchen. It's funny how no matter where entertaining starts in a home, it always drifts to the kitchen when guests help you with snacks or drinks. So the next time that happens now, I won't have to worry about my guests judging me for the hideous outdated yellow cabinets that I did have.

Three Throw Pillows

At last, for the first time, I tried my electric sewing machine that my husband bought me as his gift last Valentines Day. I was not able to try it right away because just a couple of days after that, I got the job and was busy all the time. I love my electric sewing machine. I love its features and everything about it. I will need to make a cabinet for it with matching chair so that it will be easier for me to use it anytime I need it.

During my last visit in the Philippines, I bought some fabrics with the intention to make throw pillow cases for the three throw pillows that I bought from a garage store, that I have been kept in the closet for several months.

Here is the three throw pillows that I made the other day. Aren't they pretty? I am really so glad that I made them, and now I can display them in our living room. I love sewing. I have been doing it since in my teens. The difficult part of sewing here in Florida is finding cheaper fabrics for my projects. My only chance are when I go to thrift stores, or garage sales, where I find some unwanted fabrics and they just sell it for a dollar or a little more. I have a couple of them, but not enough to make three pillow cases.

I am looking forward to sew more in the days to come. A friend of mine told me to try Jo-Ann fabric and to try to inquire about fabric discounts. I will do so.

Time For General Cleaning

Being still on vacation, this give me more time to do general cleaning before going back to work. I am currently working in the closet, which is not too much work to do because I always clean it up. Yes, the truth is, of all the rooms in our house, it is the closet that is the most neat, order and clean. My husband commented on me that it doesn’t make sense that I did it that way. Well, I don’t care. I am the one who did the cleaning anyway.

There are still many things that I want to do with our little house. I want to cover the bedrooms, hallway and living room with carpet. Contemporary Furniture For Contemporary Living

It has been almost nine months since we move here in Florida all the way from Michigan. I can freshly recall that we brought nothing with us except for our clothes and the flat television that we just bought few months ago then. It was a more than 24 hours driving from North to South, bringing with us the excitement and the spirit of adventure with the hope that life will be favorable to us here in Florida... and it is.

From an empty condo, our place now is fully-furnished. But we are not done with our home yet. The Kitchen Remodel was a Piece of Cake

When it was time to remodel our kitchen, we almost didn't do it because of all the horror stories we had heard. I finally told my husband we were doing it no matter what. We did a lot of the demo work ourselves. We took off the old counter tops and removed all the appliances and cabinets. My husband has plumbing and electrical experience, so we saved money with him doing a lot of the work. Once the demo was done we did have to call in the pros, and ended up getting a whole kitchen remodel from Sears.

The cabinets did a wonderful job, and it didn't take long at all. They said it went fast because we had done the hard part. We chose very simple cabinets; they call it the Amish style. There were very reasonably priced, which meant we were able to splurge a little on the counter tops. We didn't get granite like my husband wanted. I won the argument and we had quartz counter tops installed.

From the day we did the demo, until the day the project was completed, was exactly 6 weeks. The contractors we used said it would have taken about 8 weeks if they had to do all the demo and electrical work themselves. Doing some of the work yourself does pay off! It did in our case. We lover our new kitchen, and we are glad we did the remodel.

Address Plaque For Our Home

We are almost on our four months here in our new home. Being a first time homemaker, I can’t help but be happy on what I have done to our home. We have decorated and furnished our house the way both my husband and I like it. It is a good thing that when it comes to purchasing stuff for our house, we have the same taste, or we would have end up arguing about it. My husband is the one who is picky, but I always respected his choices, after all, his choices are all elegant.

Within four months in our new home, we are not done furnishing it. There are still things that we want to buy but have to set aside because there are things that are of greater importance as well. One of our projects for this month of February will be for our door. I would like to have a pretty address plaque hang on it, and a little note and pen holder for anyone who would missed us. I like that thought that they will have to leave their message on the note and telling us that they were here.

Cozy Nights

It has been unusually cold here in Florida for five (5) straight nights. Unusual, because they say that Florida doesn't get cold in winter like we have now. It usually just around 50's in the evening, but unbelievably, we have below 30's in the past few nights. We even had snow here in the south part of Florida. The news reported said that the last time there was snow on Florida was around 1970's. Oh, how the children love the snow, and were very happy to see them on the ground Saturday morning.

My friend in Michigan called me right after they saw in television the news about having snow here in Florida. They make fun of me, because they know that we moved here in Florida because I didn't like the cold weather up there in Michigan. We had a happy conversation on the phone and we both miss each other.
.
Since the cold nights started, my husband and I decided to sleep on the living room, because it is a lot more chilly in our bedroom than in our loving room. This is how we look like during nights, we connect the sofa couch and the love seat together, we put a fleece blanket on it to keep us warm and we cover ourselves with comforter. We both like it that way, very cozy and comfortable; and at the same time, my husband can watch TV as long as he wants. The only thing that I didn't like is that it made me get up late in the morning because I feel so cornered that I can't move too much.

Talking about chill, we need to do something with the window in our bedroom to prevent the entering of the cold air from outside. Or maybe a thick curtain can help it, too. We are not done with the window project anyway. We are looking for shutters to make it more beautiful.

Our House Projects For January 2010

On this New Year, I am determined to be more productive and fruitful in every way that I can. My husband and I were talking about what are the things we need to eliminate, what are the things we need to improve and what we need to start doing. With prayers and guidance from God, we believe with faith that we can be successful in these matters.

When we talk about improvement, they are not only physically and mentally; we also mean improvement in our house settings or decoration. Although right now I can say that we already have what we basically need for our house, but there are things that still need attention such as our curtains and my little indoor garden. We have the curtains, they are brand new, but we need the metal wall hooks to attach them on . We will need to get one, and besides that, my husband needs assistant to attach them because with his physical condition, his activities are limited. That is why he had to rely on his cousin’s availability. His cousin said they will do it sometime this week. I hope so, because I am really very excited to put on our new curtain.

Wishing For A Jacuzzi Tub

I am very happy with our new apartment here in Florida. It is very clean on both inside and outside. We have very friendly neighborhood and very accessible to almost everything. We have relatives surrounding us. We could not ask for more.

Although this place was not a brand new apartment when we moved in here, but they had replaced the floor tiles on both the bathroom and the kitchen.
